When you need to print a part but don't have a CAD file — or the shape is one nobody wants to model by hand — we have 3D scanning in-house. Most often it's the front end of a print job, but we'll run scans standalone too.
3D scanning is a companion capability — the most common use case is "I have a part but no CAD." We scan, clean the mesh into a workable CAD model, and print it (or print a modified version).
It also handles the shapes CAD is a poor tool for — sculptural, organic, or hand-made geometry that is far quicker to capture than to model from scratch.
